These questions require you to identify a mismatch between “who” or “which/that” and the nouns to which they refer.

“Who” can only be matched with people. For example, “Those are the workers who want an increase in wages”.

“Which / That” can only be matched with places or things. For example, “She doesn’t know the rules that must be followed”.

        Standing as tall as a mountain, Andre made final preparations for his

When “who” is underlined, you have to find the noun with which it matches. “Who” in choice (C) is incorrectly matched with “llamas”.

Since “llamas” are not people, choice (C) should be “that”.

        Marguerite always made it a point to greet the

        firefighters that work in the same neighborhood in which
                            (B)                                                            (C)
        she shops each day. No Error
                  (D)                         (E)

When “that” is underlined, you have to find the noun with which it is linked. Here, “that” in choice (B) is incorrectly matched with “firefighters”.

Because “firefighters” are people, choice (B) should be “who”.
